PROFILE OF CHIEF (SEN) AYO FASANMI
Chief
Ayo Fasanmi was born on September 27, 1925. His father was Late Pa Joseph
Fadahunsi Fasanmi who hailed from
Iye-Ekiti in ilejemeje Local Government, while his mother, Late Madam Aina Erungbemika hailed from Ijero-Ekiti where she
later became the Eyegun ( Traditional head of the women in ijero-Ekiti Local
Government ).
Chief Ayo Fasanmi had his primary education in Lagos, Ibadan and Offa. In 1942, Ayo gained government scholarship to Government college, Ibadan where he was until 1947 after passing his Senior Cambridge examination with exemption from London Matriculation.
Later
in 1947 Ayo entered the school of Pharmacy, Yaba where he remained till 1950
after qualification as a Pharmacist.
As
a Pharmacist, Ayo worked in the following hospitals:

Hospital, Lagos - 1950
Jericho
Hospital, Ibadan . - 1951
General
Hospital, Osogbo. - 1951 1953
General
Hospital, Oyo. - 1954, and back to
General
Hospital, Osogbo in - 1955
Ayo
went into private practice in 1956, when he founded Bamidupe Chemist at Osogbo.
In
June 1953, Ayo was married to former Miss Felicia Adejoke Oye now Late The
Olfegairram is blessed with bountiful children.
Chief
Ayo Fasanmi admits that he owes whatever he is today to God, his parents, his
“Samaritan” uncle Late Pa S.A Williams and his alma mater, Government College
Ibadan. He is particularly grateful to God for giving him a wife, a fantastic
woman, who with a tenacious and unflinching support, stood by him and bore with
him unparalleled equanimity the vicissitude of his political life.
In
the courser of his political activities, he had been a councilor both in Ijero
Local Government and former Ido-Osi Local Government comprising the present
Ido-Osi, Ileje and moba Local Government.
He
was a member of the House of Representative - 1964- 1966

member of the Constituent Assembly - 1977 – 1978
Senator
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (2 terms) - 1979 – 1983
Member
of National Constitutional Conference Commission - 1994
It
I also on record that he was the Chairman of the
Action
Group Youth Association - 1962 – 1965

As
a Pharmacist he has cause to thank God that he was conferred with highest
honour of fellow of the Pharmacist Society of Nigeria, apart form being the
National President of the Society from 1977 – 1979.
In
recognition of his services to various communities, he was conferred with
Chieftaincy title of Jegun-Osin of Iye- Ekiti his birth place, by His royal
highness Oba E. O. Fakunle Oniye of
Iye-Ekiti; Akogun of Egbe-Oba land by His Royal Majesty, Oba Adetunla
Adeleye II, the Elekole of Ikole-Ekiti
and paramount ruler of Egbe-Oba land; Seriki Agbaakin of Osogbo by his Royal
Majesty Oba Iyiola Matanmi III, the Ataoja of Osogbo; Ariwajoye of Ido-Ekiti,
and also Amuwajoye of Aiyebode-Ekiti.
In
the spiritual realm, thanks to the inspiration of His Grace the Late Most Rev.
Abiodun Adetiloye, the Retired Archbishop, Primate and Metropolitan ( Anglican
Communion) of Nigeria and Rt. Rev S.O.
Fagbemi, the retired Bishop of Osun Diocese, Chief Ayo Fasanmi is now the
Baba-Ijo of St. John’s Anglican Church, Iye-Ekiti, his home town while at same
time he was honoured as Mayegun of All Saint’s Cathedral Osogbo.


It is clear from sampled tributes that the late Pa Fasanmi was Greatness Personified.
